Spot Removal Guide
The obvious key to keeping spots from becoming stains is to remove the spill as soon as possible. Caution: Natural fibers such as cotton and hemp, etc. turn brown if exposed to excess amounts of water.
Before attempting to treat a spot or stain with special chemicals, please contact the manufacturer of the carpet or upholstery being treated. You usually can find information via the internet.
Steps To Spot Removal
1. Remove the spill as soon as possible through the action of blotting NOT rubbing. Do not use heat to dry the area where the spill has occurred. Using heat to dry a spotted area can actually transform a mild spot into a stain.
2. Try to carefully scrape away any solids first. Then blot the area of the spill with a towel. A non-colored towel is recommended. The goal is to not spread the stain.
3. Before applying any spotter it is important to carefully follow the directions. Test the spotter you are going to use on an inconspicuous area to make sure it will not damage the fiber or cause color loss.
4. Apply your intended spotter working from the outside of the spot towards the inside. This process keeps the stain from spreading. Now, use a towel to blot the spot. You can also use a flat spoon to strike the spot area to help break up the spot.
5. After using any spotting solution make sure to rinse it with water. Blot up the remaining moisture with a dry towel.
