Dry Method Carpet Cleaning

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I often am asked about the Dry Carpet Cleaning method and its effectiveness. Quite a few of my new clients are previous customers to the Dry Carpet Cleaning method.

There are benefits to just about every cleaning method that is certified by the IICRC. Some cleaning processes provide a more thorough cleaning and some are a maintenance method.

I have found an article written by Gene Rodriguez, III who discusses the benefits of dry carpet cleaning.

In this article he correctly discusses the steps involved in the dry cleaning process. On the second page he discusses some of the benefits of this cleaning method. I have to disagree with a few of his points regarding dry carpet cleaning method.

His Points

1. Excessive moisture can lead to separation of the carpet fiber from the backing.

2. An overly damp carpet also runs the risk of developing mold or mildew in the padding.

3. Dry carpet cleaning leaves no residue

Point 1. It is true that in rare occasions “excessive moisture “could potentially lead to problems with carpet backing. If proper carpet cleaning procedures are practiced very little water is left in the carpet and carpet separation is not a concern. Carpet separation from over wetting was an invalid fear with consumers 20-30 years ago.

Point 2. Again, practicing proper carpet cleaning procedures does not cause mold and mildew problems.

Point 3. If you put a chemical into the carpet an leave it there until it dries and then vacuum it up do you really think there is no residue left in the carpet? This is like washing your hair with soap and leaving it in. Then after it dries vacuum your hair. Do you think you left any residue was left in your hair? The point to hot water extraction is that your carpet is fully flushed out and rinsed with a neutralizing rinse that pH balances your carpet. This is the most highly recommended cleaning method by carpet mills.

I hope this information clears up some common misconceptions regarding hot water extraction carpet cleaning and dry carpet cleaning.

We are Portland Carpet Cleaning company that strictly uses Hot Water Extraction carpet cleaning.

Secret to Detecting Pet Urine

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

We all have seen many popular tv shows like CSI that show how investigators use special tools to uncover crime scene evidence. One of the investigator’s favorite tools is a black light.

Many professional carpet cleaners carry a black light to reveal hidden pet urine spots before cleaning. Once water is added to pet urine deposits the smell comes back and further treatment is required.

For more information check out our Portland Pet Urine treatment webpage.

Anyway…To learn how to do your own pet urine detection here is a great article that discusses the topic in full detail.
